T.I. Covers Vibe Magazine (Dec – Jan ’11): Talks Drug Habit & Eminem

Posted by | Music, News | No Comments

T.I. sat down with Erik Parker before he went to prison to speak about his drug habit, conversing with Eminem about his addiction, etc. See the excerpt below.

How did you get a drug habit?

I had a lot of work done to my teeth. Oral surgery, extractions, six, seven, eight root canals. Between January to February. As soon as I got out, I had a lot of stuff done. In the joint, you eat shit that is unhealthy for you. I had fillings that fell out and stuff that had to get dealt with. Of course for the pain they gave me oxycontin and hydrocodone. And, mind you, on October 13, 2007, I had cut off everything―weed, alcohol. Then I get these pills and I start taking them for the pain at first. And then I’m like, Wait―this shit makes me feel good. And it’s legal. After the pain went away, I kept taking it. I had like five, six prescriptions. So I had, like 80 pills. Everybody else might have a drink or smoke a blunt, I took a pain pill. Times when I had 18, 20-hour days, I’d take a pain pill. And eventually I developed―I guess―the beginning stages of dependence.

Have you talked to Eminem about addiction?

Sure. We got a record together, and we talked a lot. I asked him how he knew he was an addict. Basically if you put yourself in harm’s way… if you risk that, you’ve got to assume that there is something fundamentally wrong with your thought process.

What happened to OnSmash?!

via BallerStatus and MTVNews. Many of you (like me) frequent many of the music blog sites… I happened to check out OnSmash.com over the holiday, and I was surprised to see that the site was taken down with the above message in its place. Other popular sites such as Rapgodfathers.com and dajaz1.com were also seized as well. What does this mean? Is the music industry really fighting back now? In my opinion, the music blogs can be a great resource to help promote up-and-coming artists to the entire world. The problem is that with less and less true music programming on MTV and BET, it is a LOT harder to find new music. The blogs have become the new magazines and music television channels for many of us. THIS is how we find our new music. OnSmash provided daily music videos, as well as gave everyone a taste of all of the artists’ new music. In fact, many of the blog sites are serviced with this new music by the record labels. It’s a gift and a curse. On the one hand, a record label must give away their artists’ new singles in the hopes that it will help gain exposure for them, on the other hand, it’s probably not helping their record sales. A site like OnSmash is receiving music from the labels, but then they get chastised for putting it up?! I think OnSmash provides a great service to the music industry, and I hope they are back in business soon. Perhaps we could all just give away snippets of new songs as opposed to the entire songs themselves? Maybe all of the blogs will move to streaming content instead? I hope everyone finds some common ground soon… <shrugs shoulders> #FreeOnSmash!

Apparently the sites were removed after Congress passed the Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) last week… A search warrant was issued for the sites on November 23rd.

Following raids earlier in the year which took out several sites and domain names connected to the streaming of Hollywood movies, we can now report fresh Department of Homeland Security / Immigration and Customs Enforcement action against a site in the music sector.
Acting on a search warrant issued on 23rd November and signed by United States Magistrate Judge Jeff Kaplan, DHS and ICE agents arrived at a Dallas datacenter Tuesday with orders to take down the 146,500 member RapGodFathers site (RGF), seize its servers and gather evidence on its owners, administrators and moderators.

More after the break.

Dog Remains Faithful To Dead Owner

Posted by | News | No Comments

If you are interested in all-things-Japan, you may have heard the story about Hachiko, a faithful dog that waited for its dead owner to come back to the Shibuya Station in Japan. Similarly, this dog in Texas waits every day for its owner, who was killed by a drunk driver this past June. Pretty sad.

Man In Disguise Boards International Flight

Posted by | News, Random | No Comments

via CNN. If for some reason you missed this on CNN, here’s the story. Apparently, a man boarded an Air Canada flight (from Hong Kong to Vancouver) disguised as an elderly man… he went to the restroom and removed the mask (must’ve been getting hot in there), and then returned to his seat as a young Chinese man. Obviously, this caused some confusion, and Border Services Officers were waiting for him when he landed. There is no further information about why he decided to do this… I think the young looking hands should’ve tipped someone off.

“The passenger in question was observed at the beginning of the flight to be an elderly Caucasian male who appeared to have young looking hands. During the flight the subject attended the washroom and emerged an Asian looking male that appeared to be in his early 20s.”
The agency would not discuss when or why the man put on the disguise or details about how he boarded the plane. But the alert indicated that the suspect boarded the plane with a board pass belonging to another passenger.

“It is believed that the subject and the actual United States Citizen passenger (whose date of birth is 1955) performed a boarding pass swap, with the subject using an Aeroplan card as identification to board the flight,” the alert said.

Aeroplan is a credit card where card holders can earn frequent flyer miles

Uh… WTF?! This is ridiculous… This all started when Jay-Z mentioned MC Hammer in Kanye West’s “So Appalled” record.

“Hammer went broke, so you know I’m more focused/I lost 30 mil’, so I spent another 30/’Cause unlike Hammer, 30 million cant hurt me.”

Anyways, here’s Jay-Z’s response to MC Hammer’s video diss…

Kanye and Jay-Z’s Watch The Throne (originally slated to be an EP) is now going to be a full-length album.

“We putting out a whole album now,” he told MTV News‘ Sway Calloway. “We had done five [songs] so far, but then a few of them kind of were out there, and I put them on my album. Sorry, Jay. But we got some more, and we’re going to the South of France at the end of the month to just record new ideas. But we’ll probably be done with the album in a day.”

The Top Story in the AJC this Morning!?!@

Posted by | News, WTF?! | No Comments

My friend Prasanth just e-mailed me the top headline in the AJC this morning. It reads “Buckhead CVS Robbed For Syrup Used in Purple Drank.” Apparently two men robbed the Buckhead CVS and “only took bottles of a codeine-like syrup used to make a drink popularized in rap and hip-hop lyrics.” The robbers took approximately 7 to 10 (12oz) bottles of syrup.

Other names for purple drank include sizzurp, lean, syrup, drank, barre, purple jelly and Texas tea. The drink is made by combining the syrup with soft drinks such as Sprite or Mountain Dew and pieces of Jolly Rancher candy.
