Google’s Music Service May Include $25 Per Year Online Storage Option

Posted by | Music, News | No Comments

via PrefixMag.

Rumors about Google’s music service have circulated for a while, and now Billboard has the scoop on what exactly we can expect. According to a report by Ed Christman, both a digital download service and a cloud based offering are in the works, making it a very viable competitor to the ubiquitous iTunes store.

Apparently Google has mooted a $25 flat yearly fee for allowing users to store their music online and access it from anywhere, which seems incredible cheap. Clearly, they don’t know just how many MP3 files rabid collectors have amassed over the years. People who purchase music directly from Google will also have the option to store their wares directly in the cloud (or “locker,” as Google seem to be calling it).

Naturally, some social networking features would be involved, because apparently we can never have enough of those, but this is all conjecture at present as Google is still in negotiations with major record labels. But, for an initial proposal, which may well change before it becomes a reality, this looks very impressive so far.

Sorry I’ve slowed down on updating the blog lately… I’m switching servers, and am getting ready to re-launch the site in a few days. It will look essentially the same, however, I will be able to do more things with the site in the future. Anyways, thanks for your patience. I will keep updating the blog sporadically in the interim.

Timbaland Denies Suicide Attempt Rumors

Posted by | Music, News | No Comments

via Entertainment Weekly.

Timbaland called in to Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show today to counter rumors of a possible suicide attempt. “I don’t even know what happened, to be honest. I don’t know what people are talking about,” the superproducer said, adding, “Why would I commit suicide?”

Online reports earlier in the day claimed that Timbaland had fled his house in an agitated state after discovering the theft of a watch worth $2 million, leading his family to call the police, who found him unharmed and brought him home. In the KIIS interview, Timbaland told Seacrest that he had indeed been robbed, but not of a watch, and firmly denied that he had ever intended to hurt himself.

“The only thing I did was take a drive to figure out how I’m going to handle [the theft],” Timbaland said. He added that he planned to return to the studio this afternoon to work with Keri Hilson on her next album. Reps for Timbaland have not responded to EW’s request for further comment.

“Authenticity” is the 3rd full-length from indie-soul duo The Foreign Exchange.

Picking up where their 2008 Grammy-nominated “Leave It All Behind” set left off, “Authenticity” is the group’s most diverse work to date, with a tight, 11-track song cycle spanning the duo’s trademark brand of lush electronic soul, to stripped down acoustic pieces that recall the heyday of 70′s singer-songwriter driven folk.

Lead single “Maybe She’ll Dream Of Me” is a playful, synth-driven hip-hop groove featuring a rapped verse from Phonte that evokes the band’s “Connected” era, while the epic opener “The Last Fall” finds some of the band’s most cynical lyrics to date (“Love is at worst an excuse/at best it’s a truce…”) over a frenzied Nicolay production jammed with layers of strings, guitars, and dense choral harmonies.

“I think every band reaches that point when they come into their own and find a sound that is distinctively theirs,” says Phonte in reference to the album’s title. “The title refers to me and Nic’s journey to find our own unique space within this vast musical landscape. The biggest challenge as a musician is to find that ‘thing’ that makes you who you are. But I think we’re getting there, and we’re finding our way more and more with each record.”

Featuring guest appearances from longtime contributors YahZarah, Darien Brockington, Zo! and Median, and also relative newcomers Chantae Cann and Jesse Boykins III, “Authenticity” hits stores 10/12 on +FE Music.

Authenticity is due out October 12th on +FE Music.

No More Hip-Hop/Pop Music for 95.5 The Beat…

Posted by | Music, News | One Comment

So, yesterday, I turned my radio dial to 95.5 The Beat as I often do… and I was surprised to hear TALK RADIO instead of hip hop/pop music! What?! I thought that maybe The Beat was trying to integrate some talk radio shows to educate some of the younger listeners, but I was completely wrong. According to the AJC, 750/WSB-AM, home to hometown stars Neal Boortz and Clark Howard, added 95.5FM to its broadcast, thus closing down 11-year old 95.5 The Beat. I’m not so happy about this. This reminds me when 103.5 The Beat shut down in Miami. Damn. Anyways, let me know your thoughts.

Young Jeezy Says "Death Before Dishonor" Is Not A Diss…

Posted by | Music, News | No Comments

via 2dopeboyz.

MTV caught up with Young Jeezy. Speaking on his recent B.M.F. freestyle that everyone took as a diss to Rick Ross.

It’s not a dis. First of all, I’m not gonna get nothing out of dissing that guy. That’s one. What am I gonna get out of dissing him? I think sometimes people can read into things too deep. They trippin’, man. They crazy out there. Basically, if homie takes that as a dis, he’s insecure, and anybody else out there who does, they are insecure.

When asked about specific lines (“how you blowing money fast? you don’t know the crew. oh you part of the fam? shit i never knew”) Jeezy said the following…

That’s for real. That’s for anybody. I got niggas in prison behind that shit. I feel that if you speaking on shit, you gotta at least know who you talking about. That’s like niggas speaking on Cash Money: If he ain’t never been a part of Cash Money, [then] I’mma speak it better if I’m a part of Cash Money. To me, [Black Mafia Family] was real. I know all the members. Who else would say a line like that but me? I’m one of the few people who can say that, so I said it. That’s real life, though. You gotta know the crew, baby. I thought that was the purpose of the game: to get on records and talk your shit, right?

Subliminals, for what? What’s understood ain’t gotta be said. I didn’t think people would take the record like that. I did it like I would have any Shawty Lo record, any Rocko record, whoever. I got on [Ross’ beat] and did it like how I do it, the best way I know how. I don’t know if because the BMF situation is for real for me that everybody is like, ‘Ooh. Oh, shit.’ Twitter is a muthafucka, by the way.
