Eco PodHotel

Posted by | Travel | No Comments

The Alpine ski resort Flims is now allowing visitors to stay in an eco-friendly pod hotel designed by Robust Outdoor Brands. More photos after the break.

The pods are built with only European wood, and without glue or chemicals. They can house two people, and are heated using electricity.

‘The Pod Hotel is a pilot programme testing the structures in snowy conditions,’ says Karl Muller, manager of Robust Outdoor Brands. ‘We wanted to create something between camping and staying in a hotel, which gave a feeling of isolation.’

2013 Bentley Continental GT V8

Posted by | Cars | No Comments

Bentley has updated it’s Continental GT line for the 2013 model year revealing the new luxury couple at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The new 2013 Bentley Continental GT V8 signals a new focus for the Bentley marque, a move away from the gas-guzzling W12 engine for a refreshingly restrained V8.  Now most of us wouldn’t consider a V8 to present a significant improvement in fuel economy, but at cruising speeds the Continental GT will shut down four of eight cylinders for higher-efficiency driving.  That four-cylinder mode will provide 23 MPG driving (laughable for most of us, but not if you’re buying a performance car like this) and can extend this Bentley’s range to 500 miles on a tank of gas.  Even with the smaller engine, the new Bentley Continental GT V8 can hit 60 mph from a standing start in less than five seconds.  Its exterior is still a Bentley kind of beautiful, and the interior is elegant and refined.

Only In Japan: Goldfish Salvation

Posted by | Art, Only In Japan | No Comments

via thisiscolossal. Watch the video first. 🙂 You can get a sneak peak at how Japanese artist Riusuke Fukahori “paints” these amazing (and realistic) three dimensional goldfish paintings. As you can imagine, the process is very detailed, meticulous, and painstakingly executed. More photos and video below.

The fish are painted layer by layer, to finally create a full 3-D painting that would look exactly like “real” and live goldfish. Only, these fish won’t move. The transparent resin gives an excellent appearance of water, making the painting appear all the more realistic. Fukahori displayed his work at a recent exhibition in London titled Goldfish Salvation.

Akai MPC Renaissance

Posted by | Cool Stuff | No Comments

I’ve always been a fan of the Akai MPC drum machine… I previously owned the MPC-2000xl, the MPC-1000, and the portable MPC-500. With everything moving from analog to digital over the past few years, I kept wondering why there was no VST component for the MPC that could be used in Logic or Pro Tools. The MPC Renaissance is the answer! The MPC Renaissance will be debuted at the NAMM conference this week in California. It looks like this new MPC may give Native Instruments’ Maschine a run for its money. Check out photo of the VST plug-in, a promotional video, and some specs below.

Fusing Akai Professional’s legendary MPC layout and workflow with the power of your computer, MPC Renaissance is an unrivaled instrument for music production. The new flagship is a fully integrated hardware/software system: MPC Renaissance allows you to create using classic hardware controls and an integrated pop-up display, while it’s exclusive MPC Software empowers you with unprecedented, expandable production capabilities on your Mac or PC.

“Battle Royale” Blu-Ray Movie Trailer

Posted by | Movies | No Comments

Starz/Anchor Bay will be releasing the Battle Royale series on Blu-Ray on March 20, 2012 (just before the debut of The Hunger Games theatrical release on March 23, 2012). Check out the trailer after the break. Here is a description of the film:

Forty-two students, three days, one deserted Island: welcome to Battle Royale. A group of ninth-grade students from a Japanese high school have been forced by legislation to compete in a Battle Royale. The students are each given a bag with a randomly selected weapon and a few rations of food and water and sent off to kill each other in a no-holds-barred (with a few minor rules) game to the death, which means that the students have three days to kill each other until one survives–or they all die. The movie focus on a few of the students and how they cope. Some decide to play the game like the psychotic Kiriyama or the sexual Mistuko, while others like the heroes of the movie–Shuya, Noriko, and Kawada–are trying to find a way to get off the Island without violence. However, as the numbers dwell down lower and lower on an hourly basis, is there any way for Shuya and classmates to survive?
