Contemporary Classics: “Amelie” Soundtrack
Posted by vinnykumar | Brazilian Jazz, Contemporary Classics, Easy Listening, Movie Soundtracks | No CommentsWhat is a contemporary classic? Generally it is something that has an all time appeal and will never grow old. I know I highlight a lot of hip hop/pop/r&b on my blog, but I wanted to create a section that focuses on the other music that I listen to. You know – my classics… It may be Easy Listening, Brazilian Jazz, Anime music, movie soundtracks, 80’s music, whatever…
The first installment will feature one of my favorite soundtracks – it is from the 2001 French film, Amelie. The movie was directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and the soundtrack was composed by Yann Tiersen. The soundtrack features both compositions from Tiersen’s first three albums, but also new items, variants of which can be found on his fourth album, L’Absente, which he was writing at the same time.

Unsafe Journey. A woman is riding between the railway carriages of a local train heading north from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Her luggage is tucked under the carriage in front of her. It is the month of Ramadan, a fast which culminates in Eid-ul-Fitr, a three-day celebration. Tens of thousands of people leave the city to go to their home village and celebrate with their families. Trains are packed and many who fail to get tickets before they sell out or can’t afford buying them at the black market ride on the roof of the train or, like this woman, finds a quiet spot between the carriages. Situated in a town fascinated with conceptual eateries, this latest Tokyo establishment features an imaginative combination of psychedelic decorations, dramatic designs and waitresses dressed in Alice costumes. Located in Tokyo’s Ginza shopping district, the restaurant is situated in a 2254-square-foot space that’s divided into various scenes from the 1951 animated film.

Sure, why not?! The Thermochromic Urinal is a heat sensitive wall that registers the temperature of the *ahem* liquid on its surface, and changes color accordingly. Pretty ridiculous… but somewhat intriguing. Haha. I believe the first one was spotted in the UK. Sorry, not too much more info floating around the internet.

Posted by vinnykumar | Music Business 101 | One CommentThis week, guest blogger, Don P, gives some advice to up-and-coming producers about ghost-production or co-production with more established producers. Always great to get some thoughts from artists/producers in the industry. If you didn’t know, Don P is a member of the platinum selling group, Trillville, and he has produced for several artists including Yung Joc, Roscoe Dash, T-Pain, etc. I think he knows what he’s talking about.
