Buenos Aires Vertical Zoo

Posted by | Random | No Comments

via archdaily. This is an excellent idea for a zoo called the “Eco-Cliff” which was made for the Buenos Aires Vertical Zoo Competition. This was designed by Hila Davidpu, Tal Gazit, Eli Gotman, and Hofi Harari. I hope they make this. More pics after the break.

The “ECO-CLIFF” is a revolutionary tower that will serve as a nesting ground for thousands of migrating birds as well as an ecological habitat for the different animals and species of the “Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve ”.

Hooters Girl Competes In Contest Thinking She’ll Win A Toyota, Actually Wins ‘Toy Yoda’

Posted by | Random | No Comments

via geekologie. This is hilarious. Never heard about this story before, but it’s apparently pretty old. A Florida Hooters waitress competed in a beer-sales competition, in which the prize was supposed to be a Toyota. The only problem was that the contest was never actually written anywhere, only spoken.

In a funny twist and play on words, Hooters didn’t award a Toyota but gave her a ……
A Toy Yoda!

Jodee Berry, the former waitress, is now suing Hooters! Appearantly, she wasn’t too amused by the joke!

Haha. What a terrible prank. Apparently, Hooters ended up settling the case.

Futuristic Biopolymer Gel Fridge

via illusion360. This is Yuriy Dmitriev’s concept design of the “Bio Robot Refrigerator” which was selected in the finals for the Electrolux Design Lab 2010 competition. More pictures after the break.

Four times smaller than a conventional refrigerator, the Bio Robot cools biopolymer gel through luminescence. Rather than shelves, the non sticky, odourless gel morphs around products to create a separate pod that suspends items for easy access. Without doors, draws and a motor 90% of the appliance is solely given over to its intended purpose. At the same time, all food, drink and cooled products are readily available, odours are contained, and items are kept individually at their optimal temperature by bio robots. The fridge is adaptable – it can be hung vertically, horizontally, and even on the ceiling. Different sizes and dimensions allow it to perfectly fit the accordant dwelling.

Laptop Thief Mails Victim His Data On A USB Stick

Posted by | News, Random | No Comments

via Gizmodo. A man in Sweden recently had his laptop stolen, but was surprised to find a USB stick with all of his data and personal information in the mail a week later. Haha, wow. How kind!!! I guess there is honor amongst thieves.

As the victim, a professor at Sweden’s Umeå University, told the Västerbottens-Kuriren newspaper “this story makes me feel hope for humanity.” Of course, you could argue that had the thief had a touch more humanity in his bones he wouldn’t have stolen the laptop in the first place, but at least he left the professor’s credit cards and money in the bag the laptop was stolen from. The only other thing that was stolen, bizarrely, was his library card.

The University of Miami in the 1920’s

via the305. If you didn’t know… I went to the University of Miami for law school. I found this interesting post on the305 last night, and thought I’d share. This is the planned site of the University of Miami back in the 1920s. You can see US-1 (South Dixie Highway) and what seems to be Ponce De Leon as well. More photos (of the first edition of the campus paper, The Miami Hurricane, and a football poster)  after the break. Shout out to Dro!

Barack Obama’s Amazingly Consistent Smile

Haha… how funny is this? Also, check out this girl with the same pose in each photo after the break. Hat Tip: Jeff Wong.

The Obamas hosted a reception at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, during which they stood for 130 photographs with visiting foreign dignitaries in town for the UN meeting. The President has exactly the same smile in every single shot. See for yourself — the pictures are up on the State Departments flickr (link). And, of course, compressed into 20 seconds for your viewing pleasure.

Basque Health Department

via mymodernmet. It’s only a matter of time before this building ends up in a movie. It was designed by Coll-Barreu Arquitectos. More photos after the break.

The striking façade is a shell of glass placed at irregular angles. The folds generate multiple reflections visible from the inside, changing its appearance depending on the point of view, the hour, and the season. The façade is also an energy efficient double skin that insulates heat, reduces noise, and lets in precious natural light.

The 99,000 sq ft (9,200 sq m) space is divided in seven floors for offices, two levels for institutional and representative uses, meeting rooms in the tower, an auditorium with 150 seats in the basement, and 3 underground levels for parking.
