Trent Reznor (NiN) and How to Destroy Angels (FrEP)
Posted by vinnykumar | Alternative, Music | No CommentsNine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor recently formed a new group with his wife Mariqueen Maandig (formerly of West Indian Girl) called How to Destroy Angels. They’ve released a free 6 song EP which is available here. Hat tip: Jeff Wong.
Since I really haven’t gotten into this album yet, I figured I’d post a NiN record off of the album With Teeth.

Another song from The Kickdrums called “Impatient” off of their debut album Just A Game. The group consists of producer/singer/songwriter Alex Fitts and dj/producer Matt Penttilä who have produced for several artists including Slaughterhouse and 50 Cent. Also make sure to check out the video for “Just A Game” that I posted a while back. Shout out to Alex.

Cee-Lo – "I Want You" (Radio Rip)
Posted by vinnykumar | Alternative, ATL Music, Music, Pop Music | No CommentsThis song emerged a few days ago overseas, and is supposedly going to be on Cee-Lo’s (Goodie Mob, Gnarls Barkley) upcoming Lady Killer album. This was produced by Jack Splash of Plantlife, and was featured last week on Gilles Peterson’s show on BBC Radio. Anyways, shout out to Gilles Peterson! He supported our Basic Vocab record “Come Get With It” back in 2006.
Also, just out of curiousity… I wonder what ever happened to that Cee-Lo/Jazze Pha album that was supposed to drop before the Gnarls Barkley record “Crazy” took off… must’ve been shelved.

Bruno Mars feat. Cee-Lo and B.O.B. – "The Other Side"
Posted by vinnykumar | Alternative, Music, R&B | No CommentsThis is a VERY dope record off of Bruno Mars’ upcoming EP called It’s Better If You Don’t Understand dropping on May 11th. I think this record will do very well on radio. If you didn’t know, Bruno Mars was the singer on B.O.B.’s smash single “Nothing On You.” I think Bruno Mars is generally an R&B artist, but I’m going to classify this song under Alternative. Check his other song “Our First Time” (more of an R&B style) below as well… The synth in this track reminds me of something the Neptunes would’ve produced.

Video: Passion Pit – "The Reeling"
Posted by vinnykumar | Alternative, Electronic, Music | No CommentsThis is the second video from Passion Pit’s debut EP Chunk of Change that dropped in 2008 on Frenchkiss Records. I’m also including the video for “Sleepyhead” after the break. Pretty dope group.
Chester French – "Bebe Buell" and "Time To Unwind"
Posted by vinnykumar | Alternative, Music, Pop Music | No CommentsI know these guys released an album last year, but I figured I’d post two of the records off their debut album Love The Future which came out on Star Trak/Interscope Records. The group consists of two Harvard University graduates, DA Wallach and Maxwell Drummey, who named their group after Daniel Chester-French, the sculptor who designed the John Harvard statue. Their album is great from beginning to end and at times is reminiscent of various artists including the Beach Boys, the Beatles, and N.E.R.D. You should check it out. Shout out to DA.

Video: M.I.A. – "Born Free" (NSFW)
Posted by vinnykumar | Alternative, Music, Music Videos, Pop Music | No CommentsIf you don’t know who M.I.A. is, you’ve probably heard her music (e.g. Paper Planes) in the movies “Pineapple Express” and “Slumdog Millionaire.” This video is pretty long and uh… kind of NSFW. I like M.I.A., but I might need some time for this to grow on me. UPDATE: Also, according to Billboard, it was apparently banned from YouTube for graphic violence…
